Exploring Jim Corbett: Safari Gates and Destinations

Different gates, like Dhangari (for Dhikala) and Amdanda (for Bijrani), lead to distinct safari zones. These gateways regulate entry to the various wildlife destinations within the National Park.

Dhikala Zone

The largest and most scenic zone, Dhikala is famed for its vast grasslands, Ramganga River landscape, and excellent tiger and elephant sightings. Day visitors can only enter via the Dhangari Gate using a Canter Safari. Jeep safaris are exclusive to night-stay guests.

Bijrani Zone

Bijrani is one of Jim Corbett’s most popular zones, known for its dense Sal forests, wide grasslands, and high probability of tiger sightings. Accessible via the Aamdanda Gate, visitors can enjoy both Jeep Safaris and the option for night stays at forest rest houses.

Jhirna Zone

Jhirna is a popular Jim Corbett safari zone known for its dry deciduous forest and large grasslands (Chaurs). Accessible via the Dhela Gate, it is unique for remaining open all year for Jeep Safaris, offering good chances to spot sloth bears and wild elephants.

Garjiya Zone

Garjiya, one of Jim Corbett’s newer safari zones, is a popular spot near Ramnagar, named after the famous temple. Known for its beautiful Sal forests and grasslands, it is considered a tiger-rich area. It offers Day Jeep Safaris and is accessible primarily via the Ringora Gate.

Sitabani Zone

Sitabani, or Corbett Landscape, is a wildlife reserve, not part of the core Corbett Tiger Reserve. Open all year, it is famous for birdwatching, walking trails, and its mythological link to Goddess Sita. Jeep Safaris are offered, with permits issued by the Sitabani Forest Department.

Dhela Zone

Dhela is Jim Corbett’s newest eco-tourism zone, open year-round for Jeep Safari. Accessible via the Dhela Gate, this zone is favored for its mixed Sal forests, grasslands, and high biodiversity, including tigers, leopards, and diverse bird species.

Durga Devi Zone

Durga Devi is Jim Corbett’s hilly, northeastern zone, known for its beautiful landscape where the Ramganga and Mandal rivers meet. It’s famous for bird watching and sightings of wild elephants and otters. Accessible via Durga Devi Gate for Jeep Safari, it’s closed during monsoon season.

Phato Zone

Phato is Jim Corbett’s newest ecotourism zone, opened in 2022. Located in the northern part, it offers Jeep Safaris and is known for its lush Sal forests and good tiger sighting potential near waterholes. The zone is accessible via the Phato Gate.
